Mano a Mano Family Center is the oldest Latino organization in the Salem-Keizer area, in Oregon's Mid-Willamette Valley. Commonly known as Mano a Mano, our organization was established in 1988 to provide emergency assistance to migrant farmworkers.
In the mid-1990s, responding to a shift in demographics in our community and to the expressed needs of our clients, Mano a Mano Family Center changed its mission to support the social and economic integration and inclusion of Low Income, Latinos, and families and individuals of Color in Salem-Keizer.
Our mission is "To Educate our Latino and Low Income Clients to Become Self-Sufficient and Active Contributors to the Well-Being of their Community."

Our organization is client-centered, designed and structured taking into account not only the needs, but also the knowledge, skills, experience and desires of the communities we serve.
Our programs are designed using Popular Education values, creating a horizontal relationship between our clients and our staff/volunteers, and using a "Services & Organizing" model which not only aims to meet the current needs of our clients, but also promotes self-discovery, self-sufficiency, and self-determination.

The 2005 U.S. Census estimates the Latino population of the Salem and Keizer area combined at 34,684 people. There are 11,801 Latino students enrolled in the Salem-Keizer School District, as of October 2007.
Mano a Mano has developed a strong relationship with the Latino community over its now twenty years of existence. As a result of this, Mano a Mano Family Center is uniquely positioned to understand the needs, the struggles, and the full potential of the Latino community of our area, and to communicate this to our government and agency partners and the mainstream community, in effort to develop stronger bonds between all people of the Salem-Keizer area.
